Overcoming Self-doubt – Part 3

Hey this is Steve Fisher. Are you sabotaging your success by allowing self-doubt, fear, and indecision to paralyze you? How can you know if you are? In this video, I will answer these questions and give you the keys to overcoming these obstacles!

So, how do you know if you are sabotaging yourself? Just look at your results. Your results are a reflection of whether you have been taking the right actions and if what you are doing is working or not.

Many people allow fear and self-doubt to prevent them from taking the right actions. They simply become paralyzed.

In Steven Pressfield’s, The War of Art, he tells how famous actor, Henry Fonda, got sick before every performance up until 75 years old. He felt the fear, had anxiety, anxiousness, got sick, but would always do the performance anyway.

The difference between performers and non-performers is the performers are not waiting for the fear to go away or using it as an excuse. They just learn to deal with it and perform anyway! It is not the absence of fear that gets people to produce. Remember, as we discussed in the first video, fear can be a good thing. It means you are pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone and to your highest levels of performance. You have to feel the fear, do what you have to do to deal with it, and then do it anyway.

So, here are Keys 3-7 to overcoming self-doubt, fear, and indecision:

Key #3 – Get Adequate Knowledge

Knowledge gives birth to confidence. When you know what you are talking about, you can operate with posture. Be committed to learning the skills, strategies, and the scripts of the top earners.

Key #4 – Practice, Practice, Practice

Once you have the knowledge and know the proper action to take, it’s all about practicing. This can be practicing in front of a mirror, practicing in your car while you’re driving, practicing with your spouse, friends, or family, or even practicing in the cold market with people that you don’t know! The more you practice, the better you get and the more it becomes second nature and when something is second nature to you, fear and self-doubt begin to diminish.

Key #5 – Get Accountability Partners

Good accountability partners will push you out of your comfort zone and into a place of fear, but at the same time will be encouragers, confidence builders, and people that believe in you. Make sure your accountability partners are accomplishing both sides of the equation!

Key #6 – Focus On Having Daily Successes

It’s important that you start getting things accomplished! Have a checklist of things to do that you can check off throughout the day. One of the biggest mistakes that people make is they end up getting pulled in 50 different directions and they never get any one thing accomplished. You have to have a daily to-do list that keeps you focused and accountable to what you are ultimately trying to accomplish. As you get things accomplished, this also fuels your self-confidence and inspires you to keep moving in the right direction.

Key #7 – Trust God

Lastly, and most importantly, Trust God.  So, why would I bring this up while we are talking about self-doubt, fear, and indecision? because I believe it’s the main key to overcoming these obstacles. In my book Residual Millionaire, I discuss what true success looks like. It is knowing your creator and the fact that He created you to succeed. There’s a verse that says, “God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”

So instead of allowing self-doubt, fear, and indecision to rule my life, I choose to trust and walk in power, love, and self-discipline! The key is knowing who and where the power comes from and choosing to walk in that instead of entertaining self-doubt, fear, and indecision.
